Project Overview

A forty-minute ride on a sea plane from Anchorage is Judd Lake, where an off-grid power system supports an exclusive vacation lodge that gives guests the opportunity to ski, fish, and explore remote Alaskan wilderness via helicopter. NewGrid built the property’s new power system, implementing a Supercapacitor energy storage system.

Project Details

This remote vacation destination offers travelers the ultimate in Alaska heli-ski and fishing adventures. Situated on Judd Lake, a forty minute bush plane ride from Anchorage, an off-grid power system was the only option to power this 5-star getaway. Originally operating only on generators, a battery-based off-grid power system was installed in 2015, but required frequent maintenance and replacement of lead-acid batteries.

NewGrid was brought in at the request of a fellow contractor when the existing power system began showing signs of failure. With a constant flow of high-profile guests, it was imperative that the power system be rebuilt and done so immediately. Site unseen and equipped with only a handful of photos and dimensions of the equipment shelter, NewGrid was able to mobilize to the site in under one month to build a new power system for the property, complete with supercapacitor energy storage. The site has been performally excellent during all seasons since its commissioning in 2020.
