Off-grid solar site at sunset
ABOUT NEWGRID

Three and a half decades in the hardest places to power.

NewGrid is an Arizona off-grid solar and microgrid design-build firm. We develop, engineer, build, and maintain power for remote operations that can't rely on the grid, and we've been doing it in the field for more than thirty years.

THE FIRM

A self-performing team, not a broker.

NewGrid designs, engineers, procures, builds, and maintains off-grid power systems with our own people: engineers, metal fabricators, welders, and PV specialists. We've engineered and constructed power and water for more than 1,000 remote properties across the southwestern United States, as far north as Alaska and as far south as Panama. For municipal, federal, aviation, and state agencies, we hold 99% uptime service contracts, some on systems we built more than thirty years ago and still maintain today.

Everything runs from our engineering offices in Scottsdale and our construction yard in Phoenix. When a remote site needs attention, the people who designed and built it are the people who answer.

WHERE THE EXPERTISE COMES FROM

A 35-year lineage in off-grid power.

The company launched in 2014. The career behind it goes back more than three decades, through some of the biggest names in solar.

1992
Photocomm

Will Herndon earns an engineering degree and joins the leading off-grid firm of its day, working sales, design, engineering, and construction.

1990s
Kyocera Solar & SunPumps

Years spent engineering at a global solar manufacturer and specializing in solar-direct water pumping, including owning SunPumps, a leading name in the field.

2000
American Solar Electric

Co-founds and builds an off-grid solar firm to $30M in annual revenue, then sells it in 2014.

2014
NewGrid

Founds NewGrid to focus on off-grid power full-time again. Ten-plus years and 1,000+ remote sites later, that's still the whole job.

The result: a firm that has already solved the problem in front of you, usually more than once.

WHO RUNS IT

Will Herndon

PRESIDENT

Founder of NewGrid and a 35-year veteran of off-grid power. Will earned an engineering degree from the University of the Pacific and built his career through Photocomm, Kyocera Solar, and SunPumps before co-founding American Solar Electric and growing it to $30M in revenue. He leads NewGrid's engineering and its charge into the country's hardest remote-power projects.

Taylor Lupardo

VICE PRESIDENT

Leads NewGrid's day-to-day operations across sales, engineering, and project management. A University of Arizona Eller graduate and former management consultant to Fortune 500 firms, Taylor moved into solar in 2018 and has run operations since 2020, a stretch that included doubling revenue year over year in 2022.

Jane Warren

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Oversees NewGrid's financial, reporting, and regulatory operations. A CPA who served as lead accountant at American Solar Electric through a decade of doubling revenue, Jane joined NewGrid in 2016 and keeps the financial side as accountable as the engineering.
