Project Overview

Tucked at the foot of the rugged Dragoon Mountains in southern Arizona, this adventurous couple traded van life for the chance to build their dream home in the heart of the wilderness. Turning their DIY setup into a reliable and efficient power solution, they partnered with NewGrid to design, engineer, and construct a fully permitted off-grid system—utilizing their existing equipment to bring their off-grid vision to life.

Project Details

After years of nomadic living, a pair of lifelong off-gridders discovered a stunning remote property and set out to build their dream home. In the meantime, they parked their RV on-site and hired a tradesman, inexperienced with off-grid systems, to install a temporary power setup. Unfortunately, the system was not designed for expansion to accommodate their entire home, and no building permits were filed for the work.

In mid-2024, they turned to NewGrid to overhaul the system and ensure compliance with local building regulations. NewGrid’s engineering team reimagined the setup, incorporating the existing equipment and enhancing it with additional energy storage, inverter capacity, and solar power to meet the needs of their new home. From design and permitting to system commissioning, the entire project was completed in just six weeks. Today, these former nomads enjoy a permanent home that perfectly aligns with their off-grid values and lifestyle.
