New Mexico Border Ranch
RANCHES & AGRICULTURE

Decades of patched-together systems, consolidated into one.

The challenge

A property running on aging, mismatched power.

This ranch in the Peloncillo Mountains has passed down through generations of one family, with a perennial river through the property and no utility service in its history. Generators arrived in the 1970s; some of the first commercially available solar equipment followed in the 1980s. By the early 2000s, two separate, undersized systems were leaning hard on generator support.

What we built

One containerized plant for the whole ranch.

NewGrid began supporting the legacy systems in 2016 while designing their replacement: a single consolidated power plant housed in two repurposed shipping containers, 30 kW of new solar, and a substantial remodel of the existing infrastructure.

System specs
  • 30 kW solar
  • 250 kWh C&D VRLA batteries
  • 42 kW Schneider inverters
  • Dual 50 kW diesel generators
  • 277/480V three phase
The outcome

The whole property, one coordinated system.

Commissioned in 2019, the consolidated system powers the entire property from one location — including a pool and spa that would have seemed impossible a generation ago.
