This ranch near Chevelon Butte was homesteaded in the early 1900s and grew into the region's largest sheep operation by the 1940s. A century on, the same family still runs it — and until recently, every gallon of water pumped meant starting a generator.

Working with the Arizona Game and Fish Department, NewGrid transitioned the wells to solar-direct pumping in phases: 7 kW of solar per well driving 5 kW Grundfos pump drives, with pumps set at 800 feet and a 25 kW diesel generator held for backup. The latest phase was commissioned in 2024.
